Soft Starter or Variable Frequency Drive

Pumping equipment performance can be dramatically improved with the use of a drive system. The drive provides significant energy savings and improved equipment life by controlling the pump speed.

Pumps can, of course, be run without a drive. Operators can rely solely on across the line starters to get the pump up and running. There are several key issues with this approach, however, and these issues lead to additional expense and potential lost revenue.

This paper reviews several differences in how pumps operate with and without a drive system. It also presents a quick 10-year cost comparison.
